Note on this line

The one real county-level budget in Middlesex. The Sheriff's Office runs the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction in Billerica and is funded by the Commonwealth through the state budget, not by any county tax — the 4th-largest of Massachusetts's 14 sheriff's offices. Figures are FY2026 enacted (a hair below FY2025's $79,423,908). A separate federal grant, line 8910-0174, adds money outside the state total.
